Following exponential growth over the past year, CQ Strategic Marketing Ltd has moved to larger premises and recruited a Marketing Manager, to look after a growing portfolio of new clients in manufacturing and professional services.

With turnover set to double this year, it was only fitting that the office space, based at Westthorpe Business Centre, doubled in size to allow for Claire Rooney’s arrival as Marketing Manager and to accommodate the company’s commitment to the next generation of marketers, with intern and placement opportunities for Sheffield Hallam University, Peter Jones’ Academy and Sheffield Springs Academy students.

Alongside team growth and the continued client success, CQ Strategic Marketing has launched new services in CQ Bid Management and rebranded their training offering as the CQ Marketing Academy, supporting marketing professionals and aspiring students to achieve their marketing career ambitions. CQ Strategic Marketing is set to expand their range of workshops and bespoke company coaching, over the coming months.

Jackie Cook, Managing Director, comments, “Our growth has been impressive and to organically expand with the business was the obvious decision. Claire has many years’ experience in business, particularly in business development and marketing and will work alongside me developing client relationships and managing a range of new client accounts. It’s been an exciting few months, with our new office accommodating interns and student placements, and we only expect our growth to continue into our strongest year yet in 2017”.

Sept 2014 - Jackie Cook found her own route for success by Jo Davison, Sheffield Star

Thousands of South Yorkshire 16 year-olds must have felt their future hopes had either been raised or dashed by their GCSE results last month.

But Jackie Cook, marketing expert and Business Monthly’s new columnist, knows better than anyone that success in life is not governed by early academic achievements.

She left school at 16 and made her own way in life.

Says Jackie: “I’m proof there is a different career route to the traditional one of A levels and university route. In recent years there has been increasing emphasis across many industries for the need for practical and experience-based skills. It is something I care passionately about demonstrating to future generations.

“I didn’t want to stay on for A levels and go to university like most of my classmates. I wanted to be a secretary and left school to go to Chesterfield College for a year to study for the relevant qualifications. At 17 I was thrilled to get a job as an office junior.

“I worked for an American company based in Chesterfield and after a year I was approached by a larger local firm, The Beverage Company.

“I joined as Junior Secretary but by the time redundancy hit three years later I could cover five different office admin roles.”

She was unemployed for just a week before landing a secretarial and HR role with a Sheffield firm of accountants and business advisors.

When she became the company’s marketing assistant she started evening classes for her Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualifications, eventually gaining an MSc in Marketing Management at Sheffield Hallam, always studying in the evenings and on weekends around her full-time job.

In 2008 she went to engineering company DavyMarkham in Darnall, then to AVK UK, one of the world’s largest international valve manufacturing groups.

Armed with years of experience, she set up her own thriving company, CQ Marketing Services, which offers marketing and PR expertise to a broad range of clients.

Jackie is also a key face and facilitator at The Lyons Den, a LinkedIn based networking group set up by DavyMarkham’s former MD Kevin Parkin ,and Alan Lyons from Creative Sheffield.

She is aiming to give strategic marketing advice to SMEs looking for growth in her Business Monthly column, which starts in this edition on Page 11.

Jan 2014 - CQ Marketing Services relaunches as CQ Strategic Marketing Ltd

Since launching CQ Marketing Services in May 2012, the business has grown significantly with a range of high profile International SME clients servicing manufacturing, and IT markets.  We have also been working in partnership on several prestigious inward investment marketing projects.

Jackie Cook, Director, CQ Strategic Marketing said "We now need a brand which more accurately reflects our growing business and portrays the nature of our strategic approach to the continuous cycle of review of our clients' marketing requirements.  This will ensure that our clients are always receiving value for money and that we both understand their products, services and markets.

We partnered with The Smart Station on the new branding and are delighted with the professional results."

CQ work with business owners and managers alongside their overall business strategy to challenge and develop a creative, quality, consistent and proactive marketing approach directly targeted at the needs of their customers.

The CQ cycle is unique in that we require an in-depth understanding of your market and your strategic business position before planning and implementing your tailored marketing activity. This ensures consistency and that the agreed implementation is delivered by measuring and reporting success at every step of the campaign so continuous improvements can be applied consistently.  This is an important step which many businesses neglect, often with dire consequences.

July 2012 - Jackie Cook launches CQ Marketing Services

Jackie Cook who founded CQ Marketing Services in 2008 to meet requests she was getting from business contacts and former colleagues has just gone full-time as a marketing consultant. Jackie has secured several contracts with South Yorkshire businesses within the first two months.

Jackie said "The businesses vary from start ups to a multi million pound international group looking at a range of marketing issues from raising profile for a new product and business, writing business awards entries and rebranding a long established business that also needs material more focussed on its core markets."

Jackie has been Group Manager (known within the group as Head Lioness!) of both the highly successful Lyons Den and Lyons Den Next Generation networking groups since their inception by her former MD at DavyMarkham, Kevin Parkin and Creative Sheffield's Alan Lyons.

She said "I've worked with Kevin and Alan on a lot of the background work, everything from helping administrate the ever growing Linkedin groups, taking monies on the night to designing, setting up and updating the Lyons Den
website. My involvement was driven by wanting to help make both Lyons Den groups successful, having attended and run many events in the last 12 years I liked the informal social concept which is based on the principles of relationship marketing, people do business with people. The relaxed nature of the events means people can get to know one another which leads to stronger business relationships and aids that wider sense of a business community."

Alan Lyons, Co-founder of Lyons Den said “...through her own company CQ Marketing Services she has built and developed the website for the Lyons Den. Jackie just doesn't meet expectations and deadlines, she exceeds them! Her attention to detail and professionalism is brilliant.”

Jackie is currently working with fellow Sheffield businesswoman, Claire Taylor of Claire Taylor Therapy to organise the Sheffield Tweet up on Thursday 16th August 2012 at Maggie May's Bar on Trippett Lane as part of the Master Cutler's Challenge in aid of Cavendish Cancer Care. So far the pair have secured a free drink from the venue for all attending, live music on the night from Sheffield band Riffler, and numerous raffle and auction prizes from local businesses along with their homemade 'drunken' cakes.
